35 years after its creation, the Soubès botanical trail has been given a new lease of life by the new team at SPES, the Soubès Heritage and Environment Association. The members of the SPES will be delighted to welcome you to discover the environmental riches of the Larzac foothills.
Set against the southern rampart of the Larzac, the botanical trail from Font d'Amans to Soubès, created in June 1989, is the best way to learn to recognize the flora of the Lodévois-Larzac region.
The most significant plant species are presented in their natural environment on green plaques, with the scientific, French and common names of each variety. This makes it an excellent means of identifying and remembering plants, which can be observed at leisure.
The trail itself is of great interest to the public: exclusively on footpaths, it comprises a rich natural environment divided into 3 distinct ecosystems to each of which corresponds a different vegetation:
The mixed pine forest, the dry Mediterranean hillside, the cool valley near the torrent.
Finally, the walk is enhanced by an old iron mine, a spring and a lookout point at the crossroads of the Lergue and Brèze valleys, with views of Soubès, Lodève and the villages of the Lodévois.
The trail is located near the Soubès water tower: At the entrance to the village, turn right after the bridge over the Brèze and follow the "Sentier botanique" signs. Park in the path's parking lot, next to the water tower.
